Our Timber
You can't make a good shed without good timber. Our timber is high quality, sustainbly grown and harvested to FSC standards, and hauled less than 50 miles to get to us.
High-Quality, Sustainably Harvested Douglas Fir.
Douglas Fir is beautiful with rich red and amber tones. It’s also durable, resistant to decay and ideal for building long-lasting outdoor structures.
We buy locally from a family-owned sawmill and timber merchant in Wiltshire. They pick out premium grade material for us. The cleanest of it with the brightest colours gets used for the panels, the rest for structural and framing sections.
Not All Boards Are the Same
We use heavy boards with a particularly deep section tongue and groove.
This profile allows space for natural movement and the extended overlap prevents water getting through.
Expansion Spacing
Timber expands and contracts with changing weather, so we space our boards when making our panels. This allows the boards to move without affecting the structure's stability.
Pinning
The boards are pinned in place to keep them spaced until they're framed and to provide extra structural stability for the rest of the shed's life.
A Better Product Takes More Work
It's a lot of extra work, but it's worth it because it makes the shed strong and durable. Resistant to the damage caused by a wet and changeable climate.
Solid Doors and Panels
The quality of the shed depends on the quality of the construction. We make our panels and doors properly.
Panel Framing
Each panel and door is framed on all four sides with heavy-duty 50x50mm profiles. This makes each panel extremely solid and virtually impossible to pry apart.
We don't use slatted constructions where security is important. And we never use feather edging or shiplap which has a basic functional look.
Tougher and Better Looking
Take a look at most other sheds and you'll see the panels are pinned or nailed to the frame. That's hopeless from a security perspective and leaves a row of nails that we think is messy.
Because our panels are enclosed within the frames, they don't need to be crudely nailed in. Our approach takes more time, but the result is a panel which is both more solid and looks much better.
Hand Made
Our team of ten carpenters do everything by hand. Each length is measured, cut and jointed by hand. Each panel is assembled, finished and painted by hand. Each shed is put together in our workshop and the hardware attached and checked.
All by hand. All by carpenters. All to order.
Hand Cut
We measure each length and cut by hand. Our sheds are made by craftsmen, not machines.
Hand Chamfered
We chamfer all visible cut edges to give a cleaner finish to the look and feel of the shed. No-one else makes sheds as carefully as we do.
Hand Joined
All the important joints are hidden and inaccessible to enhance security and make each panel is rock solid.
A Pleasure to Use
We aim for better than basic functionality. Our sheds are designed in the expectation that you might need them daily and that they should be convenient and comfortable to use.
No Crouching or Stooping Required!
Nobody wants to crouch or kneel on the ground to get their bike out. But a low level fixed lid forces you to do just that.
When we set out to design the perfect bike shed, ease of access was an obvious top priority.
Wide, smooth, easy swing doors - bi-fold if you're short of space - and a hinged lifting lid set us apart and make getting your bikes as easy as walking out of your front door.
Lifting Lids - Easy Action
Lifting the lid gives access to the whole shed and any top shelves as well. The gas struts make this easy and hold the lid open for you.
We love green roofs and regularly install them on our vertical sheds where they don't compromise your ability to get your bike out. On lower sheds, designed for front gardens, if you're going to be putting things in your bin frequently, or getting your bikes out regularly, then we normally recommend a lifting lid.
Easy-Glide Hinges
We use high quality, ball bearing hinges that mean your shed opens and closes like a top end kitchen cabinet!
Reachable Drop Bolt
Our internal bolts are heavy duty for security and long enough to be opened by reaching over the door. Our extra long bolts make that easy for kids or anyone with short arms!
Gas Support Struts
Our roofs hinge upwards and an effortless lift is supported by hidden gas struts. Access the back of the shed and all bikes without bending over!
Durable, Solid, Secure
The materials and construction mean we're working from a strong base. But the hardware we use to finish and secure the unit is just as important. Our hardware and design work together to create a unit that's made to last and incredibly hard to break into.
Adjustable Steel Feet
Hidden beneath the base of our sheds are adjustable steel feet. They allow us to set the shed level even if the ground isn't perfect.
The steel feet also lift the whole structure so that the timber doesn't sit on wet ground. It's fine for wood to get wet, but it needs to be able to breath and dry out or it will rot. By using these feet we make sure every part of the structure can breath - so no rotting!
The feet and the subframe are hidden away so you never have to see them. But it's good to know we've thought about how to make sure your shed lasts and lasts.
Internally Mounted Ball Bearing Hinges
We use high quality ball bearing hinges which attach from the inside.
The hinges are suitable to carry a heavy door so they float without friction or noise. And because they're internally mounted you don't get an ugly gate hinge stretching out across the front of your door from each corner.
Internally mounted hinges are also much more secure because you can't get at the attaching screws unless the door is open.
Nicer to use, better to look at, longer lasting. Our whole design philosophy summed up in a hinge!
Solid locking bolts
Our internal locking system is super heavy duty, these bolts are not easily broken
A Padlock That Can't be Cut
On our low level sheds we fit a hasp to the inside of the lid and a staple to the front door. These are locked together with a shackleless lock that can't be cut with bolt cutters.
Security comes as standard, but if you need extra locks, alarms or grills, we offer a range of packages
Attractive Front Door Lock
Our simple, clean door locks look elegant and hide the protection behind a door that looks exceptional beside any house.
